Genshin Impact Trail of Delicacies: Path of Austere Frost Moonchase Guide

Genshin Impact’s “Moonlight Merriment” event has been updated with the final round of mini-games to conclude Liyue’s Moonchase Festival celebration. The Trail of Delicacies: Path of Austere Frost is located in the frigid mountains of Dragonspine, formidable terrain already seldom ventured by most Genshin Impact Travelers. These last six challenges will compensate for traversing these dangerous snowy peaks with limited-time event rewards, so bundle up.

Path of Austere Frost: Trail Comforts

Offer gourmet dishes to obtain “Trail Comforts,” or party buffs (these will only be active during challenge participation). Each Path will have a unique set of dishes and benefits. Path of Austere Frost has the following Trail Comforts:

Offered 2 Delicacies: All your own party members gain 300 Elemental Mastery when near an active Ruin Brazier.

Offered 4 Delicacies: When one of your own party members is near an active Ruin Brazier, the Ruin Brazier will recover 10% HP every 2s.

Offered 5 Delicacies: Obtain Hero’s Wit x 2 & Mora x 20,000

Challenge 1

Special Rules:

Ruin Braziers that reduce Sheer Cold are present within the camp. When these Ruin Braziers cease to function due to taking DMG, they will restart after a certain period of time. Additionally, a Rimefrost Infusion Stone will be present in this camp, and will greatly buff nearby opponents.

Opponents’ Details:

Ice Shieldwall Mitachurl Lv. 90

Hilichurl Fighter Lv. 90

Objective: Defeat 14 Opponents

Teleport to the Statue of the Seven in Dragonspine. Turn left and glide towards the navigation point. Sheer Cold will accumulate while gliding – pause at the grassy cliff between Dadaupa Gorge and Dragonspine territory to reset it. Otherwise, continue descending towards the Ruin Brazier.

The “Leader” concept from the previous two Paths has been discontinued for this final frosty showdown, replaced with an abundance of Cryo enemies determined to destroy the essential heat-giving Ruin Braziers.

Cryo shields, innate Cryo elements, and the “Rimefrost Infusion” attributes in Path of Austere Frost makes Pyro a significant contributor to team compositions. Some form of crowd control is also recommended since there is no longer a single boss to defeat and end the challenge.

Anemo characters like Sucrose, Venti, Kazuha, and Anemo Traveler will guard the Ruin Braziers by clumping together opponents: Sucrose in particular is an amazing support with the EM-boosting Trail Comfort, as she’s already the best Elemental Mastery buffer in the game.

Pyro-Anemo: Diluc, Jean, Bennet, Venti – Pyro Resonance + 25% ATK, Anemo Resonance. The high-energy Anemo presence rejuvenates team energy. Jean is a versatile Sub-DPS whose massive healing AoE is a huge asset in Dragonspine, where Sheer Cold is a constant invisible enemy. This double-Anemo, double-healer team minimizes the chances of experiencing a desperate scramble for the nearest heat source.

Overload: Yanfei, Fischl, Sucrose, BennetYoimiya or Xiangling can sub for Pyro, Beidou or Raiden Shogun for Electro, and Venti or Kazuha for Anemo. For those who don’t have Bennet, Noelle provides healing, shielding, and Crystallize capabilities that will buff like Bennet with the artifact set Archaic Petra. While Barbara would end up Freezing the entire party with her Hydro healing, her 5* counterpart Kokomi only applies Wet to the party for an instant and routinely dampens opponents with her healing Skill, inviting potential Vaporize and Electro-Charged reactions. Jean can replace Bennet as a healer (and buffer, with Noblesse Oblige) but won’t provide the level of Swirl/crowd control her fellow Anemo vision holders have mastered.

After defeating the Hilichurls, collect the item drops (there’s a bit of Starsilver near the camp to mine as well) and crack open the treasure chest. Just like the previous areas, a wind current will generate and provide an aerial path to the next challenge.

Dragonspine’s currents are notably more chaotic – players should leave the navigation on to re-orient themselves if they take a wrong turn.

Challenge 2

Special Rules:

Ruin Braziers that reduce Sheer Cold are present within the camp. When these Ruin Braziers cease to function due to taking DMG, they will restart after a certain period of time.

Opponents’ Details:

Cryo Slime Lv. 90

Electro Slime Lv. 90

Large Cryo Slime Lv. 90

Ice Shield Hilichurl Guard Lv. 90

Cryo Whopperflower Lv. 90

Objective: Defeat 13 Opponents

Challenge Rewards:

Primogem x 10

Prithivia Topaz Fragment x 2

Mora x 20,000

Moonchase Festival Festive Fever x 50

The next round of opponents is heavy on Cryo and Electro Slimes. Because Slimes are imbued with their own element, Melt and Overload bonuses are easy.

Land beside the Ruin Brazier and use a ranged Pyro DPS like Yanfei or Yoimiya to pick off the Slimes with that hefty 300 EM Trail Comfort generated by proximity to the Brazier. Plopping down Xiangling’s Gouba and Swirling the Pyro with Venti or Sucrose is another reaction-friendly technique.

The Cryo Whopperflowers are the most difficult foes, with a 35% damage reduction trait and tendency to burrow and ambush. Xiangling’s Pyronado is a powerful Whopperflower deterrent: leave Oz on the field or summon Electro with Raiden Shogun’s Skill to add an Overload component.

Whopperfowers are staggered for 15 seconds after their shields are broken, halting their machine gun Charged attacks. Pyro is the fastest way to eviscerate the shield: Diluc, Klee, or Hu Tao as DPS may need shields of their own to prevent staggering.

Keqing’s Burst with Xiangling’s Skill or Burst create an impressive Overload AoE: Keqing, Xiangling, Fischl, Bennet or Keqing, Xiangling, Bennet, Sucrose both have the ever-helpful + 25% ATK Pyro Resonance boost (especially with Noblesse Oblige Bennet), and either Sucrose for extra Elemental Mastery or Fischl for Electro Resonance (Energy Recharge buff).

No Sucrose or Bennet? Try Jean: she’s a fantastic healer, and holding her Skill spins the Whopperflowers before tossing them away from the Ruin Brazier.

After defeating the opponents, open the chest and ride the wind currents.

Challenge 3

Special Rules:

Ruin Braziers that reduce Sheer Cold are present within the camp. When these Ruin Braziers cease to function due to taking DMG, they will restart after a certain period of time. Additionally, a Rimefrost Infusion Stone will be present in this camp, and will greatly buff nearby opponents.

Opponents’ Details:

Treasure Hoarders – Seaman

Treasure Hoarders: Handyman

Treasure Hoarders – Marksman

Fatui Cryo Cicin Mage

Moonchase Festival Festive Fever x 50

As per routine, immediately drop in from the air beside the Ruin Brazier to defrost. A posse of Treasure Hoarders will immediately spawn.

Crowd control superstars Venti, Sucrose, Kazuha, and Zhongli would love an opportunity to tumble these rowdy thieves.

The Diluc, Jean, Bennet, Venti team shines here: Venti’s Burst collects opponents in an icy tumbler with Cryo Swirl damage, courtesy of the Rimefrost Infusion Stone. Diluc’s Burst activated from beside the Ruin Brazier absorbs the extra 300 and will Melt everyone trapped in Venti’s cyclone. If Energy Recharge is high enough, repeat with the next round, otherwise hold Jean’s Skill to pick up loose ends.

The Cryo Cicin Mage requires a bit more strategy than her simple-minded cronies. The flighty Cicins she summons are what sustains her Cryo shield: defeat the Cicins to destroy the shield and stagger the Mage with Pyro or claymore attacks before the next round of Cicins appear.

Diluc’s Burst will fry the Cicins and interrupt the Mage, while Jean and Venti can both maintain the interruption. Yanfei, Yoimiya, or Fischl auto-aim on the Cicins, and Xiangling’s Pyronado AoE is likely to catch the Cicins and the Mage’s shield in the same turn. Ningguang may also be helpful by blocking the Treasure Hoarder’s projectiles, then providing Cryo Crystallize shields against the Mage.

Once the mage is eliminated, any remaining Cicins will dissipate. Open the treasure chest and onto the next challenge.

Challenge 4

Special Rules:

Ruin Braziers that reduce Sheer Cold are present within the camp. When these Ruin Braziers cease to function due to taking DMG, they will restart after a certain period of time.

Opponents’ Details:

Fatui Skirmisher – Electrohammer Lv.90

Fatui Skirmisher – Anemoboxer Lv.90

Fatui Skirmisher – Cryogunner Lv. 90

Fatui Skirmisher – Hydrogunner Lv. 90

Objective: Defeat 4 Opponents

Challenge Rewards:

Primogem x 10

Guide to Resistance x 2

Mora x 20,000

Moonchase Festival Festive Fever x 50

Fatui Skirmishers have damage-reducing elemental armor and complementary weaknesses.

The previous Anemo-Pyro team is not as effective here, since the Skirmishers are too heavy to be pushed around by Venti or Jean. Diluc and Bennet are still applicable, with no Skirmisher resistant to Pyro.

These enemies spawn in pairs: first the Electrohammer and Anemoboxer, then the Cryogunner and Hydrogunner.

The Electrohammer is weak to Cryo and lunges quickly – Rosaria and Kaeya deal continuous Cryo damage to fracture the shield and have unique teleportation abilities (Rosaria’s Skill, Kaeya’s auto-attack sequence) that will dodge for the player. Kazuha dodges with his hold Skill while chipping away at the elemental shields with his Burst. The Anemoboxer needs to be hit from behind to avoid charging his element-absorbing shield and ideally destroyed first before helping the Electrohammer recover.

The Cryogunner and Hydrogunner spawn after the first two Skirmishers fall, and they’ll attempt to Freeze the player’s party with joint blasts of Hydro and Cryo. The Hydrogunner heals and should be defeated first: it’s weak to Electro, but Pyro and Cryo also damage both the Skirmisher and its shield. The Cryogunner is susceptible to Pyro, so an Overload or Melt setup for this pair is recommended.

Win the battle, acquire the treasure, and take flight (there’s a wooden signpost to the right of the teleport point on this route with a buried Exquisite chest for those who missed it).

Challenge 5

Special Rules:

This flight is notably longer, so landing beside the Ruin Brazier is important for warding off Sheer Cold.

Pyro and Anemo reign supreme once again in what may be the most straightforward challenge yet, with added elements of Electro creating Overload reactions.

A Pyro character should be present to Melt the multiple ice shields. Yanfei, Fischl, Xinyan, Sucrose is a slightly new variation of the previous lineups: stand by the Ruin Brazier and toss Sucrose’s Burst, followed by Fischl’s Skill and hit with Yanfei shielded by Xinyan to protect against charging Mitachurls while maintaining Pyro Resonance. Xiangling, Bennet, Kazuha, Raiden Shogun is a heavier-hitting version that utilizes Kazuha’s jumps instead of a shield.

Kazuha or Sucrose are preferable for gathering the Hilichurls and causing Swirl damage on the Mitachurls since the latter are too heavy for Venti.

Noelle can heal while her Burst range covers the surrounding Ruin Brazier area, with Zhongli as the upgraded version. Albedo has EM-boosting properties and can Crystallize Cryo, though the frequency of enemy elemental attacks vs player-diffused elements makes Crystallize less significant for these foes.

Defeat the opponents, open the treasure, and proceed to the wind current for the final challenge.

Challenge 6

Special Rules:

Ruin Braziers that reduce Sheer Cold are present within the camp. When these Ruin Braziers cease to function due to taking DMG, they will restart after a certain period of time.

Opponents’ Details:

Great Snowboar King Lv. 90

Mora x 20,000

Moonchase Festival Festive Fever x 50

The Trail of Delicacies finale features one angry, familiar face: The Great Snowboar King.

The formidable Snowboar King can crush a Ruin Brazier – and an unshielded character – in only a few hits: fortunately, there are two Braziers in this challenge, and the Snowboar King doesn’t have great aim.

The fight begins with a docile assembly of Cryo Hilichurls that will nevertheless be time-consuming without Pyro and crowd control foresight. Because the Snowboar King is largely unmoved by the go-to Venti or Sucrose, the versatile Kazuha or life-preserving Zhongli are better crowd options (Zhongli’s pillars will also stagger the Snowboar). Four stars Noelle, Xinyan, and Xiangling have wide, relevant Burst AoEs to clean up this appetizer before the chilly main course.

Hu Tao, Fischl, Bennet, Zhongli is a powerful shielded Overload team with Pyro Resonance and a healer in Bennet. A double-Pyro, double-Geo force of nature like Diluc, Xiangling, Albedo, Zhongli ensures an unbreakable team with both Pyro and Geo Resonances. Tartaglia could weasel his way in here as a Vaporize Burst DPS for Hu Tao, Xiangling, or Yanfei, provided he doesn’t overstay his welcome and apply a Wet status.

For lower AR players, both a shield and healer is recommended; the Snowboar summons baby boar attendants to blind the camera, and it’s best to have a barrier ready for unexpected strikes.

Goading The Snowboar King into a crash opens the opportunity for attack. However, the Snowboar enters a ‘Berserker’ mode after crashing too many times and drops deadly icicles from thin air. Keep an eye out for their red circle landing radius.

The Snowboar’s Berserk state eventually ends – defeat it before another state is reached.

The Great Snowboar King becomes a pile of Chilled Meat upon its defeat, concluding the Trail of Delicacies with the gathering of this iconic ingredient.
