Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy developer Eidos-Montréal has shared a new cinematic from its upcoming game featuring Cosmo, the telepathic space dog. The new cinematic cutscene highlights interaction with the character and the Guardians. Although after the quick exchange, it would seem he is not particularly happy with Star-Lord or some other Guardians of the Galaxy either.
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is a brand new single-player, third-person adventure where players will take control of Star-Lord as the game’s only playable character. However, fans can closely interact with the rest of the team like Rocket and Groot by using the game’s narrative decision-making to impact their relationship with each character or NPC in the universe, including Cosmo. While the short cinematic doesn’t tell the whole story of why Cosmo is there in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, it is abundantly clear that Cosmo is worked up about the attempt to deceive him about a Nova Tracker on the Milano. The scene concludes with Peter Quill trying to cut a deal to work together while Cosmo and Rocket growl and bare their teeth.
For those that haven’t heard of Cosmo previously, Cosmo is a telepathic Soviet dog. He is the security chief of the space station Knowhere, is a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy, and father to a litter of adorable Russian space puppies. He was also mutated by cosmic rays along the way before arriving at Knowhere. He is capable of using a combination of psionic and telepathic abilities to communicate with humans, aliens, raccoons, and trees.
The cutscene takes place within Cosmo’s base on Knowhere, where along with having a discussion with Star-Lord regarding the aforementioned Nova Tracker. While Cosmo is an important NPC, He can show his no-nonsense side while also playing with a ball and chasing his tail. Although as good a boy as Cosmo is, it’s Cosmo’s adorable puppies that steal the show as they run rampant throughout the scene.
As well as giving fans a good look at Cosmo and his pups, the latest Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy reveal trailer also gives another look at the game’s decision-making. The scene shows only one of the outcomes where the player chooses between “Selling out Rocket” or “Stick Together.” However, throughout the game, players will be able to choose different dialogue options depending on their feelings on a scene.
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is shaping up to be a grand adventure. While some fans are upset at only being able to play as Star-Lord, the game’s release as a single-player adventure without any microtransactions has pleased many fans, especially after the issues with multiplayer and paid skins in Crystal Dynamics’ Marvel’s Avengers.
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy will be available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on October 26. The Cloud Version for Nintendo Switch will also be released in select regions on the same day.
